To download Wells Fargo statements, sign on to Wells Fargo Online, open Statements & documents, pick the account and the month, and save the PDF. Deposit accounts keep up to seven years online, credit cards two. For a spreadsheet instead of a PDF, the separate account activity download gives a comma-delimited file covering recent months.
How do you download Wells Fargo statements on the website?
Wells Fargo statements download from the Statements & documents area of Wells Fargo Online. You sign on, choose the account, choose the statement period, and open the statement, which your browser shows or saves as a PDF. Online statements cost nothing, according to the bank's own Wells Fargo statement FAQs.
The sequence, on a computer:
- Sign on to Wells Fargo Online with your username and password.
- Go to Statements & documents.
- Pick the account. Checking, savings, credit cards and loans each have their own statements.
- Pick the statement period you need.
- Open the statement. Depending on your browser, it opens in a new tab or downloads straight away.
- Save it. If the file arrives without an extension, Wells Fargo's FAQ suggests naming it with ".pdf" on the end so it opens in a PDF reader.
A computer is easier than a phone for this job, mostly because saving and renaming files is simpler there. The mobile app shows statements too, but if you need a dozen months, sit down at a laptop.
Name each file as you save it. Something like "WF-checking-4417-2026-03.pdf" sorts by month in any folder and tells you the account at a glance. The four digits in that name are an example.
How far back Wells Fargo statements go online, by account
How far back Wells Fargo statements go online depends on the type of account. Deposit accounts, home mortgages and trust or managed investment accounts keep up to seven years. Credit cards, home equity lines and personal loans keep up to two years. Auto loans keep up to twelve months.
Here are the windows from the Wells Fargo statement FAQs, as one table:
| Wells Fargo account type | Online statements available |
|---|---|
| Checking and savings (deposit accounts) | Up to 7 years |
| Home mortgage | Up to 7 years |
| Trust and managed investment accounts | Up to 7 years |
| Credit cards | Up to 2 years |
| Home equity lines of credit | Up to 2 years |
| Personal loans and lines of credit | Up to 2 years |
| Auto loans | Up to 12 months |
The gap between a checking account and a credit card is the one that catches people. Someone pulling three years of records for a loan application or a tax question will find all three years of checking, but only two of the card. If you need the older card months, save each card statement as it arrives rather than waiting. Card issuers set their own windows, and the Capital One statement download guide gives that bank's.
Saving Wells Fargo statement PDFs one month at a time
Wells Fargo statement PDFs save one at a time. The bank's FAQ says you can select only one statement at a time, so there is no single button that bundles a year into one file. For a full year, that means twelve opens and twelve saves.
That sounds slow, but a routine makes it quick:
- Work from the newest month backwards. You will notice right away if a month is missing.
- Rename each file before opening the next. Downloads that keep the bank's default name can overwrite each other or pile up as "statement (7).pdf".
- Count at the end. Twelve months should give twelve files. A missing one is easier to fetch now than next week.
- Keep the originals unchanged. If you later trim or mark up a copy, save it under a new name.
Checking each saved Wells Fargo PDF
A saved file is only useful if it is the right one, so open each PDF once before moving on. Look at four things on the first page:
- The statement period. The dates printed near the top should match the month in your file name.
- The account ending. The last digits should match the account you meant to pull, which matters if you have several accounts with similar names.
- The page count. Scroll to the end and confirm the last page is there. A statement that stops mid-list was probably cut off during the download, and saving it again usually fixes that.
- The balances. Note the opening and closing balance. Each month's closing balance should equal the next month's opening balance, so a gap between two files is a quick sign a month is missing.
Five minutes of checking now saves an awkward request later, when a lender or preparer finds that one file is the wrong month.
Other banks set up their statement pages in their own way. If you also bank at Citi, the Citibank statement download guide covers its archive and file options.
Wells Fargo account activity as a comma-delimited file
Wells Fargo account activity can be downloaded as a comma-delimited file, which opens in any spreadsheet. This is separate from the statement PDF. The bank's account activity FAQs say the download covers the last 90 days by default, and up to 18 months for some account types if you set the dates.
The steps, as the Wells Fargo activity FAQ lists them:
- Choose the account you want transaction activity for.
- Open Download Account Activity under the Accounts tab.
- Confirm the From and To dates.
- Select the Comma Delimited (ASCII, Spreadsheet) option.
- Select Download.
- Save the file.
The same page also mentions Quicken Web Connect for people who use Quicken.
For a household budget, this file is often all you need. A few months of rows pasted into a sheet gives you real numbers to plan from, and the family budget spreadsheet guide shows a layout that takes them as they come.
The activity file is not the statement, though. It lists transactions, not the opening and closing balances, fee summaries or the bank's own formatting. Check the columns when you open it. Some files hold amounts as one column with negative signs, and others split them. Sort by date before anything else, so you can see the range really covers what you asked for.
Ordering older Wells Fargo statement copies
Older Wells Fargo statement copies, beyond the online window, have to be requested from Wells Fargo customer service or a branch. The statement FAQ says Wells Fargo keeps statement copies for up to seven years for most checking accounts, and directs people to customer service for statements that are not online.
On price, the bank's current Wells Fargo Consumer Account Fee and Information Schedule, effective July 28, 2026, does not list a separate charge for statement copies. It does mention a check image option fee for statements that include check images. Since fee schedules change and some requests involve more work than others, ask the banker to quote any charge before they process the request.
When you call or visit, have this ready:
- The account number, or at least the last four digits.
- The exact months, written down.
- Whether you need check images. If not, say so.
- How you want the copies: mailed paper, or something you can pick up.
Ask for only the months you cannot download. If eighteen of the twenty months you need are online, order the two, not the twenty.
Wells Fargo statement edge case: a recently closed account
A recently closed Wells Fargo account keeps its online statements for only a short time. The bank's FAQ says statements for a closed account may be available to view, download or save for about 90 days after the closing date. After that, copies have to come through customer service.
That makes the closing date a deadline. If you are about to close a Wells Fargo account:
- Download every statement you might need before you close it, while you still have full access.
- Download the last statement after it posts, which may come after the closing date.
- Export the activity file too, if you will want the rows in a spreadsheet.
- Store all of it in a folder named for the account, outside your downloads folder.
If the 90 days have already passed, request the copies from customer service or a branch with the account number and exact months, and mention that the account is closed.
When is a Wells Fargo PDF better than the activity download?
A Wells Fargo statement PDF is better whenever someone else needs to trust the document: a landlord, a lender, a tax preparer or a court. The activity download is better when you need rows to sort, sum or categorize yourself. Many people need both, one for the file and one for the spreadsheet.
A quick way to decide:
| Job | Better file |
|---|---|
| Proof of income or balance for an application | Statement PDF |
| Records for taxes or an audit | Statement PDF |
| Budget from the last few months | Activity download |
| Tracking down a charge from last week | Activity download |
| Rows from a month older than the activity window | Statement PDF, then convert it |
The last row is where people get stuck. The activity download stops at its window, but the statements go back years. If you need the rows from older months, the PDF is the only source. CheapBankConvert is built for that case: it turns a statement PDF into a CSV or Excel file with date, description, amount and balance columns, and you pay once for that statement.
