Download Citibank Statements Online, Step by Step

By CheapBankConvertPublished October 17, 2026

To download Citibank statements, sign in to Citi Online, open the account, click the statements link, pick the month and format, and download the file. For Citi cards, the past 12 months download at once, and older statements, up to seven years back, are requested inside Citi Online and arrive within a few days.

Downloading recent Citi card statements in Citi Online

Recent Citi card statements download from a "Statements (PDF)" link on the card's account page in Citi Online. You choose a statement date and a format from two drop-down boxes, click "Download", and the file appears in a pop-up window to open or save. This covers your most recent year of statements.

Citi walks through the flow in its guide to requesting previous statements. The steps are:

  1. Sign in to Citi Online and open the card account.
  2. Click the "Statements (PDF)" link near the transaction list.
  3. In the recent statements area, choose the statement date from the drop-down.
  4. Choose the format from the second drop-down.
  5. Click "Download".
  6. In the pop-up box, open the file to view it or save it to your computer.

Step 6 needs pop-ups allowed for the Citi site. If you click "Download" and nothing appears, the browser has almost certainly blocked the window. Allow pop-ups for citi.com, then repeat the download.

One detail in the guide surprises people: only statements issued after the card was registered for Citi Online are immediately available in this recent list. A card you have had for years but registered last spring will show statements from last spring onward, and the earlier months go through the older-statement request described below.

Finding Citibank checking statements online

Citibank checking and savings statements are also kept in Citi Online, in the statements area of each bank account, but Citi's step-by-step guide is written for cards. Expect the same pattern: an account page, a statements link, a date choice and a download. Confirm the date range the screen offers rather than assuming the card limits apply.

Bank accounts and cards often run on different systems inside one bank, and the labels can differ. If you hold both a Citi card and a Citi checking account, open each account in turn and look for its own statements link. Do not assume the card's list includes the checking account, or the other way round.

A few habits help when you are working through several Citi accounts:

  • Note each account's earliest year. It tells you where the online list ends and a request begins.
  • Save checking and card files in separate folders. Names that include the account's last four digits keep them apart.
  • Check the statement period on page one. A checking statement and a card statement can close on different days of the month.

If you also bank elsewhere, the menus there follow a similar idea with different names. The guides to download US Bank statements and older copies and to download PNC statements in online banking cover those two banks step by step.

How many years of Citibank statements are online?

For Citi cards, Citi says you can view and download the past 12 months of statements immediately and keep accessing them online for up to seven years. The first year is a direct download. Years two through seven are still online, but you reach them through the older-statement request rather than the recent list.

Those figures come from Citi's page on paperless card statements, which also says you will get an email notification when each new statement is ready to view online. The email is a reminder, not the statement. Sign in to Citi Online yourself to get the file, rather than clicking through from the message.

Think of the Citi archive as two tiers:

Tier Example range How you get it Example wait
Recent statements The last 12 months Choose date and format, click "Download" Immediate
Older statements Up to about seven years back "Older Statements" request in Citi Online 48 to 72 hours

The waits come from Citi's card guide. For a checking account, read the dates on the statements screen itself. Anything the screen does not offer needs a request to Citi customer service, so ask whether a fee applies before you agree to it.

Requesting older Citibank statements inside Citi Online

Older Citibank card statements are requested from the same statements page, in a section called "Older Statements". You pick the year and month, click "Request", and the request appears with the status "Processing Request". It may take 48 to 72 hours. When it shows "Ready for Download", you have seven days to save it.

Because the request happens inside Citi Online, you do not need to call anyone or write a letter, and Citi's guide does not list a charge for it. Here is the full sequence from the guide:

  1. Sign in and click the "Statements (PDF)" link on the card account.
  2. Scroll to the "Older Statements" section.
  3. Select the statement year and month from the drop-downs.
  4. Click "Request". The request shows in the "Older Statement Request Status" area as "Processing Request".
  5. To request another month, click "Make Another Request" and repeat.
  6. After 48 to 72 hours, sign in again and open the same page.
  7. Click "Ready for Download" next to the statement and save the PDF.

A worked request timeline

The dates below are an example of how one request plays out, using the waits in Citi's guide.

Example day What happens
Monday You request the March and April statements from two years ago
Wednesday or Thursday Both show "Ready for Download"
Same day You save both PDFs and rename them by year and month
The following Wednesday or Thursday The seven-day window ends; unsaved files are gone

If you need many older months, make all the requests in one sitting. They then arrive together and you can save them in one later session.

Choosing which older Citi months to request

Request only the months you actually need. A landlord asking for three months, or a lender asking for two, wants the most recent ones, and those are already in the recent list. Older requests make sense for a tax question about a past year, a dispute over an old charge, or rebuilding a history after a move. Write the list of months down before you start, because the request form takes one year and month at a time and it is easy to lose track halfway through.

Which Citi statement download format should you pick?

Citi's card page says statements download in formats that include PDF, Quicken and Microsoft Money. Pick PDF when you need the statement itself, for a landlord, lender or your records. Pick a Quicken or Money format only when you are importing into that software. Neither of those is meant to be opened in a spreadsheet.

The PDF is the bank's statement, with the period, the balances and Citi's layout. It is what anyone asking for "statements" expects, and it is the safest file to keep.

The other formats are data files for personal finance programs. They carry transactions but not the statement's printed layout. If your aim is a spreadsheet, neither is a direct route.

For a spreadsheet, you have two choices. You can look for an export option on the card's transaction page, if your account shows one, for recent activity. Or you can convert the PDF itself. CheapBankConvert, which opens soon, turns a statement PDF into CSV or Excel rows and charges for that one document, with a free two-page preview first. Whichever route you take, compare the total of the converted rows with the statement's own totals before you rely on them.

Citi older-statement mistake: letting the seven-day window lapse

The easiest Citi mistake is requesting older statements and then not saving them within seven days. Citi's guide says requested older statements are only available for seven days. After that, the "Ready for Download" link is gone, and you must request the month again and wait another 48 to 72 hours.

A requested file does not join your recent statement list, so nothing reminds you it is waiting. It is easy to request on a Friday, forget over a busy week, and come back to an empty status table.

Avoid it with three small steps:

  1. Put a reminder in your calendar for three days after the request.
  2. When you save each file, open it and check the month in its header before closing the page.
  3. Keep the saved PDFs with your other Citi statements, renamed by year and month.

If the window does lapse, nothing is lost except time. The statement is still in Citi's archive, and a fresh request starts the same 48 to 72 hour wait again. The cost is the delay, which matters most when someone else is waiting on the document.

Requested statements are worth checking for one more reason. Card statements show ATM withdrawals and cash advances as single lines, and those months are hard to budget from later. If you are pulling old statements to rebuild a spending history, the guide to tracking cash spending when the statement says ATM shows how to estimate where that cash went. When the PDFs are saved and you want them as rows, CheapBankConvert's homepage explains the per-statement prices.
