To download Bank of America statements, sign in to Online Banking, open Statements & Documents under the Accounts tab, pick the account and month, and save the PDF. The online archive holds about 18 months. For anything older, up to seven years back, use the Request statements tab, which delivers online copies free of charge.
Where Bank of America statements live in Online Banking
Bank of America statements live on the Statements & Documents page, which you reach from the Accounts tab after you sign in to Online Banking. That page lists each account's monthly statements as PDFs you can open, print or save. It also holds the Request statements tab, which you will need for older months.
Here is the path on a computer, step by step:
- Sign in to Online Banking at the Bank of America website.
- Open the Accounts tab and choose Statements & Documents.
- Pick the checking, savings or credit card account from the account selector.
- Choose the year, then the statement month you want.
- Open the PDF and save it, or use the download button the page offers.
- Rename the file with the account and month, for example
boa-checking-2026-03.pdf, before you save the next one.
Step 6 sounds fussy, but saved statements often arrive with long numeric file names. A dozen of them in one folder is hard to sort until each name says what it is.
If you hold accounts at more than one bank, the same job looks a little different at each. The guides to downloading Wells Fargo statements and downloading Capital One statements cover those two banks, so you can work through all your accounts in one sitting.
Saving a Bank of America statement from the mobile app
You can usually reach the same statement PDFs in the Bank of America mobile app, though saving the file on a phone takes a few more taps than on a computer. Menu names in banking apps change between versions, so look for a statements or documents entry on the account screen rather than following a fixed path.
On a phone, the PDF normally opens in a viewer inside the app. From there, the share icon lets you save the file to your phone's files app or a cloud drive, or send it to a printer. Check that the saved file is the full statement and not a screenshot of the first page.
A phone is fine for one statement you need right now, such as a month a landlord asked for. For a batch, a computer is faster. You can open several months in browser tabs, save them to one folder and rename them as you go, which is awkward on a small screen.
Whichever device you use, open the saved PDF once before you send it to anyone. A file that only half downloaded may open to a blank page or an error, and it is better to find that out yourself.
How far back can you download Bank of America statements?
Bank of America lets you view, print and download up to 18 months of statements online at any time, according to its own Bank of America digital banking FAQ. Months older than that drop out of the self-service archive. The bank says it keeps statement copies for up to seven years, and those older months are available by request.
The table below sums up the timelines from that FAQ.
| What you want | How to get it | Timeline from Bank of America's FAQ |
|---|---|---|
| A statement from the last 18 months | Statements & Documents, download the PDF | Available at any time |
| An older statement, up to 7 years back, online | Request statements tab | Ready 24 to 36 hours after you ask, viewable for 7 days |
| An older statement on paper | Request statements, then order a paper copy | Mailed 7 to 10 business days after the request |
| A statement older than 7 years | Outside the bank's stated retention | Not covered by the FAQ |
The 18-month line is the one that catches people. A lender asking for "the last two years" is asking for more than the archive shows, so you will need a request for the first six months. Plan a day or two ahead for it.
If you need a run of months that crosses the 18-month line, split the job in two: download the recent months yourself today, and place one request for the older ones, so you are only waiting on part of the set.
Download a month as soon as it appears if you know you will want it later. Saving each statement once a month costs a minute, and it means you never depend on the archive window at all.
Ordering older Bank of America statements at no charge
Older Bank of America statements are ordered from the Request statements tab on the Statements & Documents page. The bank's FAQ says copies beyond what is online, up to seven years back, are delivered online free of charge. They arrive 24 to 36 hours later and stay available for seven days, so save them as soon as they appear.
The steps for an online copy:
- Sign in and go to Accounts, then Statements & Documents.
- Open the Request statements tab.
- Choose the account and the statement months you need.
- Submit the request and note the date.
- Come back after a day or so; the copies appear on the same page.
- Download each one within seven days, rename it and file it.
That seven-day window is easy to miss. If you request statements on a Friday and forget until the following Monday week, the copies may be gone, and you will need to ask again.
The same tab also offers a paper copy, which the FAQ says is mailed seven to ten business days after you submit the request. The FAQ does not name a price for paper copies, so ask customer service before you order if the cost matters. For most uses, the online copy is the better choice: it is faster, free, and already a PDF you can store or convert.
Is Bank of America account activity better than the statement PDF?
Bank of America account activity, the list of transactions on the account page, is better than the statement PDF when you only need rows for a spreadsheet or budget. The statement is better when someone else needs an official record with the period's opening and closing balances. Many people need both: the PDF for proof, the activity for working numbers.
On the account's activity page, look for a download link near the transaction list. Bank of America's statement FAQ does not describe the export formats, so check what your account page offers. If a spreadsheet-friendly file such as CSV is listed, choose it and set the date range to match the statement months you are working on.
Keep the limits of an activity file in mind:
- It has no bank letterhead and no printed period summary, so lenders rarely treat it as proof.
- Pending items may appear that never posted, if you download mid-cycle.
- The date range you choose may not line up with the statement cycle, so totals can differ from the statement by a few days of transactions.
If all you have is the PDF and you want the rows in Excel, you can try Excel's Get Data from PDF feature first. Whether your copy of Excel has it depends on the version, and the post on whether Power Query is free explains which versions include the PDF connector. Bank statement tables often split across pages, so expect some cleanup.
When a Bank of America statement PDF will not download
When a Bank of America statement PDF will not download, the cause is usually the browser or the PDF viewer rather than the statement. The bank's FAQ recommends Adobe Reader version 6.0 or later for viewing statements and suggests trying a different browser if a download fails. Those two changes fix most blank or stuck files.
Work through these in order and stop when the file opens:
- Try another browser. If you use one browser every day, open the statement in a different one. Extensions and saved settings in a daily browser are a common cause.
- Allow pop-ups for the bank's site. Some statement viewers open in a new window, and a pop-up blocker stops it silently.
- Save instead of opening. Right-click or long-press the link and save the file, then open it from your downloads folder with a PDF reader.
- Use a current PDF reader. A built-in browser viewer may show a blank page where a full reader does not.
- Check the month exists. A month older than the 18-month archive will not be listed at all; use the Request statements tab for it.
One mistake to avoid: do not take a screenshot of the statement as a workaround and send that instead. A screenshot drops pages, loses the text layer, and is often rejected by whoever asked for the statement. It also makes any later conversion harder.
Once the PDFs are saved, you can turn them into CSV or Excel rows. CheapBankConvert charges once per statement rather than monthly, and you can preview the first two pages converted before paying; the price check on the homepage shows what a given page count costs.
