> Turn a quarterly bank statement into Excel: one PDF covering three months, how page count changes the price, and splitting rows by month.
To turn a quarterly bank statement into Excel, convert the one PDF that covers all three months, then add a month column with a formula and total by month with a pivot table. One file means one price, set by its page count. Check that the closing balance matches before you split anything.

## Why would a bank send a quarterly bank statement?

A bank sends a quarterly bank statement when an account has had no electronic transfers, which is common for savings accounts and some low-activity accounts. In the US, Regulation E requires a statement for each monthly cycle with an electronic transfer, and at least quarterly when there has been none.

The wording is in the CFPB's copy of [Regulation E section 1005.9 on periodic statements](https://www.consumerfinance.gov/rules-policy/regulations/1005/9/): an institution must "send a periodic statement for each monthly cycle in which an electronic fund transfer has occurred" and "at least quarterly if no transfer has occurred". An account can therefore switch between monthly and quarterly statements depending on how it was used.

Some banks also offer quarterly statements by choice, and some business and investment-linked accounts use a quarterly cycle by default. Either way, the PDF covers three months with one opening and one closing balance.

## Quarterly bank statement page count and price

A quarterly bank statement holds three months of rows in one document, so it costs one conversion, not three. On CheapBankConvert's early pricing, a statement of 2 pages or fewer converts free, up to 10 pages is $2.99, and 11 to 40 pages is $5.99. A quiet savings quarter often fits the free tier.

The page count is what moves the price. The examples below use the early prices and made-up page counts.

| Example quarterly statement | Example pages | Price |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Savings, interest only | 2 | $0, free in full |
| Savings with a few transfers | 4 | $2.99 |
| Checking with light use | 9 | $2.99 |
| Busy checking quarter | 14 | $5.99 |

A busy checking account can run past 40 pages over three months, which is above the listed tiers. In that case, split the PDF at a page break and write down the running balance at the cut, as [the guide to long PDFs and page limits](/blog/pdf-to-excel-converter-online-500-pages) describes.

## Splitting quarterly bank statement rows by month in Excel

Splitting a quarterly bank statement by month in Excel takes one helper column and a pivot table. The helper column turns each date into a month key, and the pivot table totals money in and money out for each key. It works on any converted file whose date column holds real dates.

Follow these steps:

1. Convert the statement and open the rows in Excel. Check that the dates are dates: they should right-align and sort in order.
2. In a new column headed month, enter `=TEXT(A2,"yyyy-mm")`, where A2 is the first date, and fill down.
3. Select the table and insert a pivot table. Put month in Rows and amount in Values.
4. Add a filter or a second Values field for money in and money out if your file has separate columns.
5. Check the total of all three months against the closing balance minus the opening balance.

Here is a worked example with made-up figures for a July to September quarter.

| Month | Money in | Money out | Net |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| 2026-07 | 3,200.00 | -2,875.40 | 324.60 |
| 2026-08 | 3,200.00 | -3,410.15 | -210.15 |
| 2026-09 | 3,450.00 | -2,990.80 | 459.20 |
| Quarter | 9,850.00 | -9,276.35 | 573.65 |

If the opening balance was 4,100.00, the closing balance on the statement should be 4,673.65. A mismatch means a row is missing, usually near a page break.

## Quarterly statement or three monthly ones: which to convert?

When you have the choice, convert whichever version covers the period with fewer documents and the same rows. One quarterly statement is one price. Three monthly statements are three, unless they are short enough to be free or you have enough files for a bundle. The rows are the same either way.

The arithmetic for three monthly files, including when a bundle starts to pay and when a short month is free, is in [converting 3 months of bank statements for the least](/blog/convert-3-months-of-bank-statements). The quarterly file usually wins on price, while monthly files make month-by-month checks easier because each has its own opening and closing balance.

Some requests need monthly statements specifically. A court or a lender may ask for every month in a period, and [the guide to bank statements for divorce](/blog/bank-statements-for-divorce) covers how many years to gather and how to summarize them. Ask whether a quarterly statement is accepted before you rely on it.

## Quarterly bank statement edge case: a quarter that crosses the year

A quarterly bank statement whose cycle does not follow the calendar can cross January 1, for example November 15 to February 14. If the statement prints dates as month and day only, a converter or a paste into Excel can stamp every row with the same year, filing the January rows a year early.

Check the dates after converting. Sort by date and look at the first and last rows: they should fall inside the statement period printed in the header. If the January and February rows show the wrong year, fix them with a formula such as `=DATE(YEAR(A2)+1,MONTH(A2),DAY(A2))` on those rows only, then paste the results back as values.

Card statements raise the same issue at year end, along with their own quirks such as installments. If one of your files is from Apple Card, [converting an Apple Card statement to Excel](/blog/convert-apple-card-statement-to-excel) covers its free CSV export. For bank PDFs, CheapBankConvert's [homepage](/) has the early one-time prices and a free 2-page preview.
