Custom Date Range Bank Statement: Get Only the Days

By CheapBankConvertPublished October 17, 2026

A custom date range bank statement covers only the days you choose rather than a full monthly cycle. A few banks let you set start and end dates in online banking. Otherwise, filter the account activity to those dates and export it, or download the monthly statements that span the range and trim the rows in a spreadsheet.

Can online banking produce a custom date range bank statement?

Online banking can produce a custom date range bank statement at some banks, but the official monthly statement always follows the bank's fixed cycle. What most banks offer instead is an activity search: you pick a start and end date, and the site lists, prints or exports the transactions in between.

Look in three places:

  • The transaction or activity page. A date filter, often labelled "custom" or "date range", sits above the list.
  • A download or export button near that list, offering CSV or a spreadsheet file for the filtered dates.
  • A statements or documents page that, at some banks, includes a "transaction history" or "account activity" document you can generate for chosen dates.

Each bank caps how far back the activity search reaches. Capital One, for instance, shows the past two years of account activity on its website, according to its Capital One help page on transaction history. For older ranges, monthly statements are the only source.

If the filter or export button fails to load, the problem is usually the browser or a pop-up blocker. The steps in a bank statement download that is not working cover the common fixes.

Building a custom date range record from account activity

Building a custom date range record from account activity means filtering the transaction list to your dates and exporting it. The result lists every posted transaction in the window. It usually lacks the printed opening and closing balances a statement carries, so you add those yourself.

A dependable way to do it:

  1. Set the activity filter to your start and end dates.
  2. Export as CSV, or print the page to PDF if no export exists.
  3. Note the balance at the end of the day before your start date. Many banks show a running balance column you can read it from.
  4. Note the balance at the end of your last day.
  5. Check that the first balance plus deposits minus withdrawals equals the second.

Exclude pending transactions. They can change amount or vanish before they post, and they make step 5 fail.

When someone needs an official document for part of a month, ask whether the bank issues an interim statement. That is a bank-produced statement for the days since the last cycle ended, explained in the guide to the interim bank statement.

Trimming monthly statements to a custom date range in a spreadsheet

Trimming monthly statements to a custom date range means converting the statements that span your window into rows, then deleting every row outside it. You start from the bank's own figures, so the balances stay provable even after the cut.

Here is a worked example with made-up figures. You need March 10 to April 9, and the account's cycle runs with the calendar month.

Step (example) Value
Statements needed March and April
Balance at end of March 9, from the March running balance 1,820.00
Deposits March 10 to April 9 2,600.00
Withdrawals March 10 to April 9 2,145.30
Computed balance at end of April 9 2,274.70
Running balance on the April 9 row 2,274.70

The two final numbers match, so no row was lost in the trim. Sort by date before deleting rows, and keep the running balance column, because it supplies the opening figure in the third row.

Many accounts do not run calendar months. If your cycle closes on the 20th, a March 10 to April 9 window sits inside the statement covering February 21 to March 20 and the one covering March 21 to April 20. The method is unchanged: find the two statements whose periods touch your first and last days, convert both, and trim. Check the period printed on each statement before you start, so you do not download a month that holds none of your dates.

If the account prints no running balance, take the opening balance of the statement and add or subtract every row up to the day before your start date. That gives the same opening figure, with one more step.

Spreadsheet tools that convert PDFs vary. Downloaded "full version" converters from unofficial sites carry their own dangers, set out in the risks of a PDF to Excel converter full version.

Will a lender accept a custom date range statement?

A lender or landlord may not accept a custom date range statement you assembled yourself. Many requesters want official monthly statements because those carry the bank's layout, your name, the account number and printed balances. A filtered activity export or a trimmed spreadsheet is easy to edit, so it proves less.

Send full monthly statements when:

  • The request says "statements" or names a number of months.
  • The requester wants to verify income or balances over time.
  • The dates you need cross a statement cycle, since two whole statements show more than one partial export.

A custom range is fine for your own budgeting, an expense claim, or a dispute over a few days of charges. If you are unsure, ask the requester which document they accept before you send anything.
